Hawking Day - Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre

Courses

Hawking Days

Hawking Days take place between the middle of October and the middle of March. The Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre gives guests on the hawking day responsibility for one of the centre's Harris Hawks and shown how to carry and recall it to the fist, making an exciting day out in North Cumbria and South West Scotland.

The Day

Your day will begin with the obligatory cup of tea or coffee and a quick tour of the other birds at the centre.

You will then be driven to our hunting grounds a short drive from the centre. Guests on the hawking day will then be given responsibility for one of the centres Harris Hawks and shown how to carry and recall it to the fist.

During the day we will use trained ferrets (Seymour and Maggie), as Rabbits are the hawks' main quarry, although Pheasants are also on the game list.

This is an active pursuit and entails a good deal of walking and fence climbing and is therefore not suitable for the young or infirm, if you are not sure about suitability please call the centre for more details.
